Delta Xi Chapter
Local History of Delta Xi Chapter of Delta Delta Delta
A local group at the University of Missouri organized in the spring of 1913 with the intention of petitioning Delta Delta Delta. Delta Xi chapter was installed with 14 charter members by Hortense Imboden Hudson, National Vice President Alpha Province, assisted by members of the Springfield Alliance in 1915. The installation was held at the chapter house at 511 Hitt Street. On Friday night the Trident Degree was given. The Stars and Crescent Degree was given Saturday morning, May 15, 1915. Delta Xi chapter was fortunate in being exposed to two Tri Delta “greats”. Bessie Leach Priddy, Adrian, was Dean of Women at the University of Missouri, and Pearl Bonisteel, Oregon, was the chaperone house mother; both served Tri Delta as National Presidents (Dean Priddy was national president in 1931 – 1934 and Mrs. Bonisteel in 1928 – 1931). Dean Priddy’s daughter, Frances Priddy McDonald, was the first Tri Delta legacy initiated at Delta Xi chapter; she later served Tri Delta as National President (1946 – 1946) and as Editor of the Trident for many years.
